I was pumped going into the Bucktown 5k on an unusually brisk September 13th morning. I arrived early was able to buy a great pair of Bucktown 5k sweat pants surprisingly cheap. I figure it will come in handy for those chilly winter runs. I love 5k’s! They are so much fun to run and participate in. Running is the only workout I can do on my own, and once in a while I like to join others who enjoy running.
This was my first year doing the Bucktown 5k and I enjoyed it. I was not that familiar with Bucktown and participating in the run I was able to get a glimpse of the neighborhood as I ran. After the run and selfies at the finish line and friend and I went to a local breakfast spot called Toast. I figured since I ran a 5k I deserved a reward and could splurge on some calories. I got the French Toast Orgy, it was sinfully delicious.
While I enjoyed the run, I am already making plans for my favorite 5k, the Hot Chocolate run. I am aiming to beat my time from the Bucktown 5k. So I have compiled a list of my favorite things to for before a run. If you have any other run suggestions direct message me on Instagram at @ronnilt or drop a comment on this article;
The night before the run it’s good to have some carbs to fuel your run the next day.
I know what you’re thinking, of course, we have to drink water. However, there are other ways to stay hydrated outside of just water. Coconut water, and fruits and vegetable like, watermelon, strawberries and cucumbers.
Going to bed at a decent hour is crucial to make sure your energy level are optimal for the run.
I just learned to pay attention to my pacing. Using my RunKeeper app, I found that I can keep a comfortable pace of 11 minutes per mile. I know it’s slow, but I am going for endurance, not speed.
Music is important, you got to have your theme music. One of my favorite things to do for a run is to create a playlist. The music helps me keep going when I start to get tired, and it pumps me up. Here is a link to the Spotify playlist I created.
